Ludwig G. Rieder delivers lecture on Sustainable Tourism Policy and Financing at the 2017 UNITAR CIFAL Jeju Workshop

APPI Director and ADB Senior Advisor Ludwig G. Rieder attended the annual UNITAR CIFAL Jeju Workshop in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea on 27-30 June 2017 as a plenary speaker. He first delivered a presentation on “Sustainable Tourism Policy for Coastal Regions: Tourism as an Economic and Social Development Tool,” which emphasized the importance of establishing a coastal tourism planning framework covering the physical, social, and economic aspects of tourism development to ensure the sustainable management of coastal areas. He also delivered a lecture on “Sustainable Tourism Financing and Investment” which detailed the processes involved in the procurement of external grants and loans from organizations such as the ADB to finance investments in tourism development.
 

With the theme, “Sustainable Tourism Management for Coastal Destinations in the Asia Pacific Region,” the workshop aimed to promote awareness and deeper understanding of coastal tourism policy and sustainable tourism management, through the exchange of best practices and experiences, and encouraging city-to-city cooperation.
